Form autosave and data restoration helps candidates complete forms without losing their progress. Teamdash automatically saves information entered into public-facing forms and restores it when the same form is reopened.
How autosave works
While a candidate is filling out a form, entered data is automatically saved in their browser. If the form is closed before submission, the saved data can be restored when the candidate returns to the same form later.
When saved data is restored, the candidate sees a notification confirming that their previous progress has been recovered.
Which data is saved?
Most form field values are saved automatically, including:
Text fields
Text areas
Dropdown selections
Radio buttons
Checkboxes
Other standard form fields
File uploads are not saved
Files uploaded through file fields are not stored as part of the autosave process. If a candidate returns to a partially completed form, any previously selected files must be uploaded again.
This behavior is required by browser security restrictions and applies across modern web browsers.
When is saved data restored?
Saved data is restored only when the candidate returns to the same form under the same conditions.
The following must match:
The form URL
The form itself
The landing page where the form is embedded (if applicable)
The selected language (if applicable)
This ensures that information entered for one form, landing page, or language version is not accidentally displayed in another.
When is saved data not restored?
Saved data is not restored in the following situations:
The candidate opens the form in a different browser.
The candidate uses private or incognito browsing mode.
The form is opened in a different language version.
The form is opened on a different landing page.
A different form is displayed on the same landing page.
The saved data is older than 7 days.
What happens after form submission?
Once a form has been successfully submitted, the saved browser data is cleared automatically.
If the candidate opens the form again after submission, the form will appear empty.
Key benefits
Help candidates continue their application exactly where they left off.
Reduce drop-offs by allowing candidates to resume incomplete forms.
Create a smoother candidate experience with automatic form progress saving.
Help candidates complete applications on their own schedule.
Increase form completion rates by preventing accidental data loss.
Make interrupted applications less likely to result in abandoned submissions.
If you ever find candidates asking common questions, the following examples might help:
Why wasn't my progress restored?
You may be using a different browser.
You may be browsing in incognito/private mode.
The form language may be different.
The saved data may be older than 7 days.
Why do I need to upload my files again?
Browsers do not allow uploaded files to be restored automatically for security reasons.
